THROW DOWN QUEEN AND ME & MRS JONES TO SPIN THE DISCS AT UTTOXETER THIS SUMMER

Thu, Mar 30, 2017

Uttoxeter Racecourse has been able to confirm another top line-up for the summer.

Its the news that Sara Cox will make a return visit to the Racecourse, to pump up the volume at Ladies Night (http://www.uttoxeter-racecourse.co.uk/whats-on/fixture/15th-june-2017/), on Thursday 15 June; and that Sophie Ellis-Bextor and her husband Richard Jones from band, The Feeling, will be taking centre stage to DJ at Ladies Day (http://www.uttoxeter-racecourse.co.uk/whats-on/fixture/28-july-2017/), on Friday 28 July.

Already widely regarded as two of the leading events on Staffordshires social calendar, Ladies Night and Ladies Day at Uttoxeter Racecourse give groups of gals and their pals the perfect excuse to get glammed-up and in mood for a girls night out with a difference.

But the appearances by Sara, Sophie and Richard at these meetings this year is still further evidence of the direction in which the management at Uttoxeter Racecourse want to take this famous Staffordshire venue.

David MacDonald, Executive Director at the racecourse says, Not so very long ago, we would bring in traditional tribute bands to provide the entertainment for Ladies Night and Ladies Day. But we’ve been trying to raise the bar year-on-year, and we are absolutely thrilled to be bringing such high profile celebrities to the racecourse this year to perform at Uttoxeter. Our horse racing programme obviously remains our No.1 priority. But what we are keen to show is that we’re also going to bring some top-class entertainment to the racecourse, as well.”

All of this, of course, will follow another headline act for Uttoxeter in May - when Kaiser Chiefs will be performing at the Live Music Raceday (http://www.uttoxeter-racecourse.co.uk/whats-on/fixture/20-may-2017/).

Sara Cox loves music and plays sets that reflect her 20 years in the business. From Whitney to Kanye to Cameo, from the Killers to Kim Wilde, to Prince, Madness and the Prodigy - she’s always guaranteed to make people dance and even jump about a bit.

She has presented various TV shows, from Channel 4’s “The Girlie Show” to “MTV Hot”, Channel 5’s “Exclusive” and Channel 4 music programmes “Album Chart Show” and “Born Sloppy.”

Sara presented BBC Radio One’s Breakfast show for three and a half years, taking the show to various festivals and to the Balearics for the notoriously hedonistic “Radio One’s Ibiza Weekend” and hosted numerous slots including drivetime and across the weekend.

In 2013 Sara made the move from BBC Radio One to BBC Radio 2 where she presents her own Friday night show “Sounds of the 80s” – two hours of brilliant music from the 1980s, an eclectic, exciting decade of music that is often reflected in her DJ sets. Sara is also the official Radio 2 Breakfast Show cover DJ for Chris Evans, regularly playing music to and attempting to entertain over 9.5 million listeners on Europe’s biggest breakfast show.

Sara Cox is also a regular co-host on Radio Four’s “Loose Ends” and presents BBC2’s “The Great Pottery Throw Down”.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor, meanwhile, DJs with her husband Richard Jones from band, The Feeling. Together, they make-up the DJ duo, Me & Mrs Jones. Sophie was also on Strictly Come Dancing.

Sophie recently released her sixth album ‘Familia’. The album follows her silver certified album Wanderlust, which marked a critically acclaimed change in musical direction for Sophie. Following suit with her last record, Familia was also co-written, produced and arranged by acclaimed singer-songwriter and good friend Ed Harcourt and was recorded in London with a close-knit group of musician friends.

Tickets for both events are already on sale. For further details about all races and events scheduled for 2017 at Uttoxeter Racecourse, visit www.uttoxeter-racecourse.co.uk.
