On the evening of Friday 8th March, Uttoxeter Racecourse will be welcoming a panel of racing celebrities and a host of horse racing fans as it holds its first Cheltenham Festival and Midlands Grand National Preview Dinner.
Held in the impressive 1907 Suite, guests will have the opportunity to meet some of the legends of the horse racing world including Bob Champion MBE, winner of the 1981 Grand National aboard Aldiniti.
Bob is sure to recount the amazing story of how he recovered from testicular cancer, and Aldiniti recovered from a career threatening injury to win the stamina defying contest at Aintree by four lengths. As part of his ongoing commitment to cancer research, events on the evening will support the Bob Champion Cancer Trust.
Also coming along to give his expert views on the runners and riders at Cheltenham Festival and Uttoxeter’s own Midlands Grand National meeting is retired Jockey Andrew Thornton. Retiring only last year, Andrew rode his final winner at Uttoxeter and continues to build on years of experience in his role as raceday presenter at the popular Staffordshire track.
For soap fans, there will be the chance to meet Coronation Street star Charlie Lawson aka Jim McDonald, a big horse racing fan, race horse owner and regular visitor to Uttoxeter.
Hosting the evening will be Derek ‘Tommo’ Thompson bringing not only decades of horse racing knowledge but anecdotes from his involvement in some of the biggest stories in racing including the kidnap of Shergar.
Limited places remain for the evening which is guaranteed to be entertaining as well as providing valuable insight into two of the National Hunt racing calendars key events. With all this and a delicious two-course dinner for just £40 per head, there is still time to book your places.
