Does He Know & Truckers Lodge feature among 56 entries for The Boulton Group Midlands Grand National
A total of 56 horses have been entered for the 2023 The Boulton Group Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter Racecourse on Saturday 18th March. The feature race of the season at Uttoxeter, will be run over the marathon trip of 4m2f with a total prize fund of £150,000 on offer to contestants. The total number of entries for the race represents the third highest total in the last thirty years.
The Class 1 Premier Handicap has once again attracted some of the top staying steeplechasers from across Britain and Ireland, with 3 entries carrying a BHA rating of 150 and above. 157 rated Does He Know trained by Kim Bailey and owned by the Yes He Does Syndicate is the top-rated entry.
Two previous winners of the Midlands Grand National are both entered and will hope to prove course form is an advantage. The Paul Nicholls trained Truckers Lodge was the winner in 2020 when partnered by Lorcan Williams. Time To Get Up won in 2021 with Jonjo O’Neill training the winner ridden by his son, Jonjo Jr.
Charlie Longsdon trains the popular grey mare Snow Leopardess, who gave birth to a foal three years ago, but has since returned to racing and won the 2021 Grade 3 Becher Chase at Aintree.
2022 Welsh Grand National winner, The Two Amigos has an entry for Nicky Martin alongside two previous winners of the feature race at Chepstow. 2020 winner Secret Reprieve who is trained by Evan Williams and Iwilldoit who won in 2021 for trainer Sam Thomas and has already won Warwick’s Classic Chase earlier this season.
Trainer David Pipe has an outstanding record in the race, having won four times in a row between 2011 and 2014, and has entered a total of 3 this year, Iceo Madrik, D’Jango and 151 rated Remastered.
Fergal O’Brien has been the top trainer at Uttoxeter so far this season and he has two entries, Captain Cattistock and Autonomous Cloud. The Cheltenham based trainer will be hoping he can claim his second win in the race after Chase the Spud in 2017. Irish Champion trainer Willie Mullins has two rare entries at Uttoxeter with Mr. Incredible and Captain Kangaroo.
Gates open at 10:15am and the action gets underway at 1:15pm with the eight-race card drawing to a close at 5:15pm.
