Extreme wet weather conditions cause abandonment of Ladies Night on Thursday 13 June 2019.
The conditions, which are unusual for June, has seen over 100mm of rain in the 6 days prior with a further 10-15mm expected. On Monday 10 June the Met Office issued yellow weather warnings across the east and west midlands regions with floods predicted to cause disruptions. June is on track to be the wettest on record with a further 10 days of expected rain.
“It is with deep disappointment that we made the tough decision to cancel the event” comments David MacDonald, Executive Director. “We have been closely monitoring the ominous forecast for days and a precautionary inspection was called for 8am this morning (Thursday 13 June).”
MacDonald continues “At 6am we walked the course and there were large areas of standing water with further downpours forecast, it left us with no choice, as the safety of all concerned remained the overriding priority.”
Over 5,000 racegoers were expected to attend the event, with 7 races followed by a DJ set with the legendary Craig Charles after racing. Customers have been given the option to transfer to Ladies Day on Friday 26 July where Martin Kemp will take to the decks for a DJ set. Customers who are not able to attend on this date have the option to transfer to another 2019 fixture of choice or alternatively receive a refund.
